SKY

SKY: Sau Kii Yanda

While in sports in the independences carnivals, most of the boys use or call “ Sakiyam Warriors” > It was this local rugby league that I played in 1997 Christmas in Yaibos , Enga Province where I twisted my right feet.

Since that I did not play that effective but other boys enjoyed a lot. It was the Yaibos Primary School field that we normal use and it’s a quite and peaceful place all players, teams and spectators enjoy much.

The initial “SKY” was first invented or named by the following boys when they were in Pausa High School in the early 1970s. The SKY name was used when they were playing, visiting places and even when going to other places looking for young girls. The founders of the initials were:

  1. Nita Akomane  ( NARASY)
  2. George Issac ( GISY)
  3. Tolai Yau
  4. Yanes Yau
  5. Mark Pakea
  6. Kaketa Ratu
  7. Pakio
  8. Bob Wilfred Mango

In follow up to that year of high school, some more boys joined in and the name was even grown stronger. These boys were juniors to and they enjoyed the company of the elders; juniors include:

  1. Ken Ikuti
  2. Wilbur Win Katato
  3. Pulio Mago
  4. Nathan Piso
  5. Jonathan Piso
  6. Cathy Tommy
  7. Along Blacky
  8. Eleyki Minalyo
  9. Frank Iki

When they were out of the school after their 4 years enjoying the brown rice and the elephant grass, the name still remained intact and the graphitise along the walls of the building, toilets, dorms, mess building, southern cross water tanks still remains and I saw when I entered the school in 1993.

Myself with some boys in our time in early 1990s in the school we maintain the name and its strong hold in forms of sports and gatherings. The boys who we used the name to play rugby league in the local Yaibos and Pausa area were:

  1. Micha Bell Tupi
  2. Londe David
  3. Paul Ikuti
  4. Londati Ikuti
  5. George Jack
  6. Besakali Pupu
  7. Kame Rimbao
  8. Bonny Bui Mango
  9. Don Danny Wia
  10. Alo Luther

Even more boys and girls from Yaibos Tora joined in for their high school life. We enjoyed and had proud feelings when we were address as “Magi SKY” and Kame Rimbao formed a string band call SKY Band. The SKY Band played in the schools string band competition and won the second price worth K40 (AU$20.00). I was given K2 (AUD$1.) for I was involved too. When I left after my 4 years in Pausa enjoying the elephant grass and my brand new spade was blunt, mattress covers worn out, pillows covers were torn apart and tired but happy and had an enjoying heart for I completed my secondary level of education.

My juniors still had the title SKY into their sports games and enjoy using.

I was surprised by an address that noted:  “SKY Stylim na Yu Karem Ya”. After 10 years a young lady address me a note on a torn apart writing pad said that and that very moment brought me back all the way to 1980s when I was a message carrier for the bigger brothers when they were writing letters to girls..

What a long way but its still keeps on and I still hear my small cousins and brothers sons and daughters say we are the SKY boys and girls when I go for holidays.

Be proud and keep calling the united SKY where we all are equal in our communities thus we enjoy the peacefulness living in Yaibos, the birth place of SKY initial.
